The leaked photos from last month were the real thing. Nintendo confirmed the Zelda 40th Anniversary Edition Switch 2 during the Direct, and it arrives a week ahead of Ocarina of Time.
The console is dark green Joy-Con 2 controllers with a Triforce and Hylian crest detail, on a dark system with a gold triangular pattern running across the back and the dock. The dock has the big gold Triforce front and centre. It's the nicest looking Switch 2 variant so far by a fair margin.
Alongside it, Nintendo is releasing an anniversary edition of the Switch 2 Pro Controller in the same green and gold, sold two ways: with a display stand or without one. Press Start reports the stand version is exclusive to Nintendo's online store, with the plain version going to selected retailers. There's also a matching Switch 2 carrying case that comes with a screen protector. Everything lands on 29 October, one week before Ocarina of Time on 5 November.
Two things Nintendo didn't say. Its announcement describes the system on its own and doesn't mention the game being bundled in, so treat this as a console, not a game-and-console pack, until Nintendo says otherwise. And there's no pricing for Australia yet. Press Start says it'll post local details when Nintendo Australia has them. A standard Switch 2 is $699.95 here, so a special edition at or a bit above that is the sensible guess, and a guess is all it is for now.
If you've been holding off buying a Switch 2 for Christmas, this is the one to wait for. Limited editions from Nintendo tend to sell through pre-orders quickly and then reappear on marketplaces at silly prices, so if you want one, get the pre-order the day it opens rather than hoping to grab one in store in December.
