Nintendo's Zelda 40th Anniversary Direct ran for about half an hour at midnight AEST. If you slept through it like a sensible person, here's everything it covered, shortest version first.
The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time, 5 November 2026, Switch 2 only. Fully rebuilt visuals, voiced characters, a jump button, right-stick camera, orchestral score, a progress tapestry called Threads of Time, and you can hum ocarina songs into the console's mic. $94.95 digital in Australia. We've done the full write-up separately.
Nintendo Switch 2 The Legend of Zelda 40th Anniversary Edition, 29 October. Green Joy-Con 2, gold Triforce dock, plus a matching Pro Controller (with or without a display stand) and a carrying case with screen protector. No Australian prices yet. Also covered on its own.
The film. The live-action Zelda movie is officially titled The Legend of Zelda, no subtitle, and it opens in cinemas worldwide on 30 April 2027 from Nintendo, Arad Productions and Sony Pictures. Nintendo calls it an original story built on the ideas of 40 years of games rather than an adaptation of one of them. Shigeru Miyamoto said the plain title is deliberate.
The concert tour. The Legend of Zelda 40th Anniversary Concert series runs around the world next year, covering music from the earliest games through to the modern ones. Japan kicks off in Tokyo in January, North America in Chicago in February, Europe in London in April, and Australia starts in Melbourne in May 2027. Ticket details are going up at zelda.gameconcerts.com. If you've got a Zelda-mad kid, a Melbourne weekend in May is a decent bribe.
Ocarinas and amiibo. Two real ocarinas are coming later this year: a playable one, and an electric one from HORI that plays single notes or entire songs at a button press, and Ocarina of Time responds to both. New Young Link and Young Zelda amiibo launch in 2027 and unlock retro-style masks in the game. For Tears of the Kingdom, the Mineru's Construct amiibo is out 17 September.
Lego and Hasbro. The Lego The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time Link and Epona set is a 1,750-piece display model aimed at adults, available from spring 2027 (our autumn). Hasbro has an electronic Master Sword, 27 inches long with more than 15 touch and motion activated sounds, also spring 2027, plus a range of Zelda, Link and Ganondorf figures.
Apps and extras. Zelda Notes in the Nintendo Switch App gets Ocarina of Time support: a daily record, a hint-image treasure hunt, a virtual ocarina you can play on your phone, and a 2,000-question quiz. From 9 September the Nintendo Today! app hands out a Zelda digital card each day. The Nintendo Museum in Kyoto gets an anniversary ticket design, new photo spots from 5 November, and a Super Family Restaurant opening in their autumn.
What wasn't there: no new mainline Zelda, no Wind Waker or Twilight Princess ports, nothing for Switch 1 owners beyond what's already out. This was the Ocarina of Time show with merch around the edges, and Nintendo was upfront that a second, general Switch 2 Direct runs tonight at midnight AEST for the games due over their winter.
