Koei Tecmo has put a date on Team Ninja's Three Kingdoms sequel. Wo Long 2: Wings of Ember launches 4 March 2027 on PS5, Xbox Series X|S, Switch 2 and PC, it is on Game Pass from day one, and a free Alpha Demo is playable right now until 30 September.
The date came from a PlayStation Blog post by producer Masakazu Hirayama on 15 September, backed by the same announcement on Xbox's side. The full game is coming to PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch 2, Xbox on PC and Steam, and Xbox Game Pass members get it on launch day.
The demo is the bigger deal for anyone waiting. It covers part of the Changban stage and runs until 30 September on PS5, Xbox Series X|S and PC. It is not available on Switch 2 or Xbox Cloud. Multiplayer co-op and character creation are both in the demo, and beating the boss Wuzhiqi earns a Fledgling Phoenix Helmet that carries into the full game. Koei Tecmo is also asking players to fill in a survey afterwards.
The sequel keeps the Deflect that defined the first game and adds Insight Skills, which let the player stop and counter attacks, knock enemies into walls, or slam airborne foes into the ground. The bigger change is the battlefields. Changban and Red Cliffs are open fields rather than corridors, with enemy strongholds and demon lairs scattered across them, and the game lets the player flank, capture bases, lay traps or recruit enemy generals to turn a fight.
It is an original dark fantasy story set in the Three Kingdoms period, with elixirs of immortality and demons drawn from Chinese classical literature. Characters from the first game return, but Koei Tecmo says newcomers can follow it without playing Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty first.
Pre-orders opened on 15 September. Digital pre-orders come with the Creator Goddess Garb outfit set, and a Digital Deluxe Edition bundles the Season Pass, a digital mini soundtrack and a mini art book. No Australian price was listed at the time of writing.
For Australians, the demo window closes on 30 September US time, so the practical cut-off is the morning of 1 October here. The first Wo Long landed in March 2023, so this is a four year gap between games.
