The Witcher 3 Remastered goes live today, and the patch notes explain what changes. The skill system is rebuilt, and skill points reset.
The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt Remastered launches today, 29 September, on PC (Steam, GOG, Epic Games Store and Battle.net), PS5, Xbox Series X|S and Nintendo Switch 2. CD PROJEKT RED published the patch notes on 28 September. Anyone who bought the game before, physical or digital, gets the Remastered version as a free upgrade within the same platform ecosystem.
The biggest gameplay change is the skill system. It has been rebuilt with three ranks per skill and prerequisites, and skill points are reset. Equipment reforging lets you change how a piece of gear looks without touching its stats. Monsters behave differently in combat, character animation and movement have been reworked, and there are new cameras for exploring and fighting. Meditation now plays a time-lapse, the map holds more markers, and Photo Mode adds character placement, poses, weather controls and a first-person view.
There is a new accessibility preset called Bard's Ballad that lowers the mental load of the game. It sits alongside options for faster vitality regeneration, infinite breath and unlimited durability. Ukrainian localisation is new.
On PC, the patch adds path tracing and support for DLSS 4.5, FSR 4 and XeSS 2.0. The PS5 Pro version uses PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution and supports variable refresh rate. The Switch 2 version offers four ways to play, including motion controls and a mouse sensor mode, plus VRR and HDR. Xbox gets Play Anywhere support.
The patch notes do not give file sizes, and we have not confirmed a launch time for Australia, so check your platform's store for when the download appears.
Why it matters: owners pay nothing for the upgrade, and because skill points reset, an existing save will need its build redone.
