Nintendo's results for April through June show another 3.82 million Switch 2 consoles sold in the quarter, taking the total to 23.68 million since launch in June 2025. That puts it past the GameCube's lifetime total of 21.74 million, in just over a year.

It also keeps the Switch 2 as Nintendo's fastest-selling system ever. No Nintendo console or handheld has sold this many units by its fifth quarter on sale. The Wii, the previous benchmark, was at 20.13 million at the same point, and the original Switch was at 17.79 million. Nintendo reckons it will sell another 12.68 million Switch 2s over the rest of its financial year, which would put it at 36.35 million by the end of March 2027.

The original Switch is still ticking along too. Another 660,000 sold last quarter takes it to 156.59 million lifetime, within a few million of the PS2's reported record of 160.63 million. Whether it gets there before the shelves clear is one of the quieter races in gaming.

On the games side, Tomodachi Life: Living the Dream has passed 8 million copies, already ahead of its 3DS predecessor's lifetime total, and Pokemon Pokopia sat at 3.68 million by the end of June, before this week's Bubbly Basin expansion landed.
