John de Lancie is back as Q, and he's brought a mode that reshuffles the route home every time you start a run.
Daedalic Entertainment and Hamburg studio gameXcite announced early Tuesday, our time, that Q Trials arrives on 1 October as a free update for Star Trek: Voyager - Across the Unknown on PC, PS5, Xbox Series X|S and Nintendo Switch 2. It's a new mode built around Q messing with the rules: randomised events, routes and challenges that change each run, and looser rules on who you can put in your crew (an all-Borg crew is apparently fine). The studio names Frostpunk and FTL as the flavour it's going for. De Lancie voices Q again and fronts the reveal trailer.
The Equinox DLC lands the same day. It adds the U.S.S. Equinox as a playable ship inside Q Trials, along with Captain Rudolph Ransom, Maxwell Burke and Noah Lessing from the show. The Equinox is smaller than Voyager, carries fewer crew and has less warp power, so it's the hard-mode ship. The Steam listing adds that it comes with its own questline. There's no price on that listing yet, and I couldn't confirm whether it's part of the existing A$46.99 Expansion Pass, so don't assume it is.
The base game came out on 18 February this year. It's a narrative survival strategy game where you run Voyager's systems and crew across 12 sectors of the Delta Quadrant, handle diplomacy and make the sort of calls Janeway had to make, with roguelike elements already in there. It's A$38.46 on Steam at the time of writing, 30% off the usual A$54.95.
