Nintendo released Rhythm Paradise Groove on 2 July for Switch, and it plays on Switch 2 as well. It's the first new entry in the series in over ten years, going by Rhythm Heaven Groove in the US. Here it carries an RRP of AU$59.95, and the usual retailers are already trading under that.

The setup hasn't changed, and that's the appeal. You get more than 80 brand new rhythm games, each one a short, silly burst where all you have to do is press in time with the music. Catching flying vegetables, that sort of thing. On top of the solo stuff there are over 30 multiplayer rhythm games, co-op and competitive, for up to four players gathered around a single console. There's also a story mode called Beatspell, a rhythm RPG where nailing the beat is how you push through each chapter.

If you want to try before you buy, there's a free demo on the eShop, and your progress carries over into the full game.

I haven't had hands on it yet, so this is a heads up rather than a review. But on paper this is about as pick-up-and-play as gaming gets. Each mini-game runs seconds, not hours, there's nothing to save or lose your place in, and four players on one console means the kids don't need their own gear to join in. That combination is rare and it's exactly what works in this house.
