The pitch from System 3 founder Mark Cale is a what-if: what would the Putty games have looked like if their creators had Switch 2 hardware in the mid-1990s. Putty World is the first entry in what the company is calling its What If series, with more classic reworks planned along the same line.

The game is planned to ship with 75 new or heavily updated levels, more than 45 new enemies with their own behaviours, end-of-level bosses and dedicated boss fights. Putty himself has more than 50 facial expression combinations so he reacts to what is happening around him. System 3 is targeting a locked 60 frames per second, 1080p in handheld mode and up to 4K docked.

System 3 showed the Switch version of Putty Squad next to Putty World at Gamescom in August to make the point about the visual jump. The Tokyo Game Show build is described as a very early technology and graphics demo rather than a slice of the finished game.

There is no price yet and no word on other platforms. The original Putty came out on the Amiga in 1992, Super Putty followed on the SNES, and Putty Squad has been re-released on most modern consoles including Switch.
