Sony has shown off its next two PS5 headsets. The PlayStation Pulse Wireless Headset arrives in select markets this holiday season, and the pricier Pulse Edge follows in early 2027 with active noise cancellation and a detachable boom mic. Prices, pre-order dates and Australian availability have not been announced.
The reveal came on the PlayStation Blog on 15 September from Joe Bentley, Sony Interactive Entertainment's vice president of engineering. Both headsets follow on from the Pulse Elite, which launched in 2024 as the first PlayStation headset with planar magnetic drivers and the PlayStation Link wireless connection.
The new pair use bigger planar drivers than the Elite, which Sony says means fuller bass without losing the clarity people liked on the older headset. Both come with a PlayStation Link USB-C adapter for lossless, low latency audio, and can switch between PS5, PlayStation Portal, PC and Mac. They also hold a Bluetooth connection at the same time, so a phone can stay paired while the game audio runs over Link.
The standard PlayStation Pulse has an integrated mic with AI noise rejection, built-in volume control, and earcups that rotate flat for carrying. The Pulse Edge doubles the magnet volume in each driver, adds active noise cancellation, a detachable boom mic with a hidden backup mic, an on-headset game and chat balance control, an audio jack and a carrying case. Sony describes it as the premium option and says it uses higher grade materials.
Both headsets come in White and Midnight Black. Sony's own product pages are live but carry no price. The blog post says pre-order dates, launch dates and pricing will be shared closer to release.
Sony has not said which markets get the Pulse first, only that it starts in select markets this holiday season. The Pulse Elite did launch in Australia in early 2024, so a local release is likely at some point, but nothing has been confirmed for Australia yet.
