Black Salt Games announced the new studio on 15 September 2026. Team Trifold is based in Christchurch, New Zealand, and is made up of Jed Uy, Carl Johnson and Wilson Teo. Its debut game, Nothing Lost, is in development for PC. There is no release date and no price yet, but the Steam page is live for wishlists.

Nothing Lost is built around a lineage of heroes. You play a shaman climbing the Tower of Souls, a necropolis with randomised floors spread across five biomes. When your shaman dies, their spirit stays in the tower with the abilities they picked up. The next hero can find that spirit, absorb it and summon it in battle. Up to three souls can be equipped at once, and their skills, buffs and traits combine. Combat is real-time and mixes melee, ranged and magic attacks. Wilson Teo of Team Trifold says the game keeps a record of every attempt, so the powers compound and runs get stronger over time.

The other half of the announcement is Saltworks Entertainment. It is a new Christchurch company that sits across Black Salt Games, Disc 2 Games and Team Trifold, and it takes on the jobs a small team does not need full time: production, marketing, QA, localisation, audio, business operations and publishing. Black Salt Games CEO Nadia Thorne said the aim is to keep each development team small and creatively focused while sharing the rest. All three studios work under the same roof.

Disc 2 Games, which Thorne co-founded in 2023, put out a free Steam demo for Canvas City on the same day. Canvas City is a turn-based tactics RPG where crews of roller skaters, musicians and graffiti artists fight for territory in a city that has banned public art. The demo covers the tutorial and the first four levels, with six playable characters across three classes. The full game is in development for PC and Nintendo Switch, also with no date.

DREDGE was an award-winning hit in 2023 and put Christchurch on the map for a lot of Australian and New Zealand players, so a second and third studio under the same roof is worth keeping an eye on. Nothing Lost is PC only for now and has no date or price. The Canvas City demo is free right now and is the quickest way to see what the group is doing.
