VRR in TV mode is in. Nintendo's wording is that if both the software and your TV support it, the refresh rate output will adjust based on how the software is performing. That is the thing people have been asking about since the console launched, because the Switch 2 has had VRR in handheld from the start and not on a telly.

The catch: Nintendo says a Nintendo Switch 2 dock update is required to enable it. So the console update on its own will not do it. There is also a new settings area for VRR under Display, and what used to be called Dock Output Information is now Video Output Information and includes details about the TV you have connected.

Nintendo has not said which games support VRR, has not published a supported refresh rate range, and has not said whether the dock update happens on its own. So if you turn it on tonight and nothing looks different, that is why.

The other genuinely useful addition is system transfer from one Switch 2 to another Switch 2. That did not exist before. It sits under System Settings, then System.

The rest of the list is smaller stuff. GameChat now shows chats you have joined before, you can start a chat without inviting anyone first, and the C Button menu lets you change the screen size mid chat. Virtual Game Cards get a settings option on the HOME Menu so you can review and edit which of your consoles can use them, and if a card cannot be ejected from another console because it is off or offline, you now get prompted to start the software on an online licence instead. Only the person who bought it can play it that way.

There is also a Mii QR code share feature, music while you are making a Mii, audio settings saved separately per TV, Portuguese for Brazil added to text to speech and GameChat speech to text, a Quick Settings toggle for Handheld Mode Boost, the ability to use other controllers during Handheld Mode Boost with Joy-Con 2 attached, and play activity that now combines your time on the same game across multiple consoles. Plus the usual stability line.
