Nintendo opened the Switch 2 Direct with the one nobody had leaked properly. Metroid Ravenous is a brand new side-on Metroid, it's out on 28 January 2027, and the Australian Nintendo Store already has the prices up.
The setup: Samus's ship goes down on a moon, and before she can get her bearings she's ambushed by five assassins Nintendo is calling Space Ninjas. The theme is eat or be eaten. Samus has latent Metroid powers now, so when she stuns or counters an enemy she can drain the energy out of it to keep herself going, and the assassins come at her in one-on-one duels through the game. It's side-scrolling in the Dread mould, and Nintendo has it running at 120 frames per second with HDR on Switch 2.
Nintendo hasn't said which studio is making it. MercurySteam made Samus Returns and Dread, but nothing official names them here, so we're not going to guess.
Pricing for Australia is already live on Nintendo's online store. $94.95 for the digital version, $109.95 for the boxed copy, and $194.95 for the Special Edition, which bundles the game card, a SteelBook case and a Samus amiibo in her Metroid Suit that you can't buy separately. The store has that edition limited to one per customer. Two more amiibo launch alongside the game: a standard Samus at $29.95 and a Chozo Statue at $59.95. The release date on the Australian listing is 28 January 2027, the same day as everywhere else.
It's Switch 2 only. No Switch 1 version, no other platforms.
