Ubisoft has confirmed the next Ghost Recon game is real. In its 25th anniversary showing for the series, the publisher said it has been building the next chapter "for the past few years", and it's opening a Ghost Recon Insider Program where players can sign up for early access to closed tests and help shape the game. No name, no date, no platforms yet, but after years of silence since Breakpoint, it's the first official confirmation the series has a future.

The bigger surprise is what happened to Wildlands. The 2017 open-world Bolivia game just got a free update called Last Rites, out now on PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One and PC. It adds a new standalone story mission set in a darker corner of Bolivia controlled by Los Penitentes, a fanatical cult, with a masked antagonist called La Llorona out for revenge against the cartels, the CIA and Unidad.

The update also brings a proper visual upgrade: 4K at 60fps on PS5, Xbox Series X|S and PC. And the Predator is back. The crossover mission that was removed from the game in 2020 has been restored, so you can once again get hunted through the jungle by the galaxy's worst tourist.

There's more for the anniversary: Ghost Recon Future Soldier is free to claim on PC for about a week, so grab that while it's going.

A nine-year-old game getting this kind of treatment is rare. It reads like Ubisoft warming the audience up before the next game shows its face, and honestly, Wildlands was the right one to bring back. It's still the series' high point for a lot of players.
