Codex Mortis, a survivors-style bullet hell game about a necromancer, gets its full 1.0 release on Steam on 24 September 2026. Developer GROLAF and publisher CRUNCHFEST have set the launch for 10am Pacific time. For Australia's east coast that works out to 3am AEST on Thursday 25 September. The studio wrote the time as PST, so if it meant standard time rather than daylight time, the game lands an hour later at 4am.

The final Early Access update went live on 10 September and changes how a run is put together. Before each mission the player builds a deck of skills and spells from the cards they own, and that deck is the loadout they fight with. Points earned during a run buy booster packs, and each pack adds new cards to the collection. The update also rebuilds the whole game in an isometric view, with new art for the heroes, the enemies and the levels.

Version 1.0 adds five more schools of dark magic on top of the existing five: Harvest, Death Knight, Spiritism, Desolation and Apothecary. Every school combines with the others, so the new ones bring fresh synergies and mutations as well as new spells. The playable roster grows to 31 heroes, each with their own abilities, and more levels join the Apocrypha story chapter.

The game entered Early Access on 26 March 2026. On Steam it sits at Mostly Positive from 58 user reviews. It is Steam Deck Verified, has full controller support, runs on Windows and Linux, and supports local co-op for two on a shared screen. The interface and subtitles come in 28 languages, including English.

The Steam page says the game is made with AI. In its content disclosure, the developer states that AI is used for the game's entire code, text, art, sounds and music.

Codex Mortis is A$5.95 on Steam, and it is 20 per cent off at A$4.76 until 16 September. GROLAF has said it does not plan to change the price when the game leaves Early Access. It is a 140 MB download, it plays in short runs, and it works on the couch with a controller or on a Steam Deck. For anyone who likes Vampire Survivors and wants a card collection on top, it lands here in the early hours of Thursday 25 September.
