A brand new studio's first game selling a million copies before the weekend is out doesn't happen often. Rebel Wolves just did it.
The Blood of Dawnwalker passed one million copies sold within about 65 hours of launch. The game unlocked worldwide at midnight Warsaw time on 3 September, which was 8am Thursday for us, and the official Dawnwalker account on X posted a thank-you graphic marking the milestone late on Saturday UTC, just after midnight on Sunday 6 September AEST. The post itself just says thanks for playing, sharing and supporting. The million figure is on the image.
You'll see it reported as two days by some outlets and three by others. Neither number is Rebel Wolves' wording. It's somewhere between two and a half and three days depending on when the counter actually ticked over, and the studio hasn't said when that was or how the sales split across PS5, Xbox Series X|S and PC. Bandai Namco, which publishes it, hasn't put out a press release on the number as of this morning.
The Steam side backs the story up. The game peaked at 78,188 concurrent players on Steam on 6 September according to SteamDB, climbing through the weekend, and its Steam user reviews were sitting around 82% positive over the same period. Critic scores landed in the low to mid 80s on Metacritic across the three platforms.
For anyone still on the fence, it's A$109.95 digital on PlayStation, Xbox and Steam. Physical copies were going for between about A$94 and A$99 at Target, Amazon, JB Hi-Fi and Big W in the launch week, though those prices move. Rebel Wolves is the Warsaw studio founded by Konrad Tomaszkiewicz, who directed The Witcher 3, and it says it was 160 people strong at launch. Dawnwalker is pitched as the first chapter of a saga, so a million in a weekend makes the second chapter a lot more likely.
