Ubisoft is bringing back 2013's Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag, and it's gone the whole way with it. Black Flag Resynced is a ground-up remake, not a remaster, rebuilt on the newer Anvil engine with none of the original code carried over. It lands 9 July 2026 on PS5, Xbox Series X|S and PC through the Ubisoft Store, Steam and the Epic Games Store, and it's on Ubisoft+ as well.

Ubisoft Singapore is leading the build, with a chunk of the original team back on board. On top of the obvious visual jump, ray tracing and the rest, there's new story content that leans into fan favourites like Blackbeard and Stede Bonnet, so it's not just the old game in a nicer frame.

To get people in the mood, Ubisoft roped in folk band The Longest Johns to turn real player reviews of the original into a sea shanty. It's a bit of fun, but it says something that a twelve year old game still pulls that kind of love.
