IO Interactive posted the update on the game's official X account on 15 September. The Switch 2 version had been due in the northern summer of 2026. It will now arrive in March 2027, and the studio says it will confirm the exact date later.

The reason given is performance. IO says the extra months will go into polishing how the game runs on Nintendo's hardware so it holds up the way players expect. The studio also pointed to the reaction to its gamescom demo in August as a sign the wider game is in good shape, and the same Switch 2 build is playable at Tokyo Game Show this week.

This is the second slip for the port. It was first meant to launch with the other versions on 27 May 2026, then moved to a summer window while the rest of the game went out on time. Kropp Gaming reviewed it on PS5 Pro in May. The PS5, Xbox Series X|S and PC versions are not affected by the new delay, and IO said in August those versions had passed 4 million copies sold in their first three months.

IO's statement does not mention pre-orders or refunds for the Switch 2 edition, and no Australian price has been published for that version.

For Australian households where the Switch 2 is the only console, the wait is now the better part of a year with no firm date attached. Anyone with a PS5, Xbox Series X|S or a gaming PC can play it today. On Steam the PC version lists at A$111.95 in Australia, and it was 20 per cent off at the time of writing.
